Why mornings
The hour nobody can take from you
Dawn is the coolest, quietest, cleanest hour a Dhaka day has to offer. Here's what riders notice after a month of claiming it.
Light sets your clock
Twenty minutes of morning daylight anchors your circadian rhythm — you fall asleep faster at night and stop fighting the 3 PM crash.
A clearer head by 7 AM
Easy aerobic movement before screens lowers cortisol reactivity for the rest of the day. Riders call it "arriving at work already warmed up."
Heart work that sticks
Three easy sessions a week is the dose most guidelines ask for. Doing it at dawn is simply the version nothing else can cancel.
Nothing can steal it
Classes move, work runs long, traffic swallows the evening. At six in the morning the day has not started arguing with you yet.
Accountability that is kind
Someone notices when you are missing — and nobody comments on your pace. That single social contract beats any streak app.
Routes already solved
Lit roads, water stops, safe crossings, a bail-out point every kilometre. We scout them so you only have to show up and follow.
What we do
Three ways in. Same sunrise.
Every session opens with the same 20-minute warm-up and closes with the same 10-minute cool-down. What happens in between depends on the day — and none of it costs anything.
Running
Sunday — Wednesday
The backbone of the week. Four mornings of running, at whatever pace lets you finish a sentence.
- 20-minute warm-up, together
- Run at your own pace, nobody dropped
- 10-minute cool-down and stretch
- Beginners welcome any morning
Karate & self-defence
Thursday & Friday
Practical self-defence for DU students — essential safety skills and the confidence that comes with them.
- Led by trained instructors
- No experience or kit needed
- Open to all students
- Runs alongside the morning run
Football & cycling
Saturday
The end-of-week session. A game on the field or a ride out from campus, depending on the morning.
- Casual sides, mixed ability
- Group rides beyond the campus
- Feeds our inter-hall tournament
- Bring a bike, or just boots

Sessions go ahead in heat, haze and rain. We only call one off for lightning or flooded roads.
Plans shift around exam weeks and events — check the Facebook page the night before.
Club life
More than a lap around the campus
Morning Riders started as a handful of students who did not want to waste the coolest, quietest hour of a Dhaka day. It is still that.
RUN for DU
Our anniversary run for the University of Dhaka — the one morning a year the whole club moves at once, from first-timers to the front pack.
Based at TSC
The Teacher–Student Centre is home. Campus roads are wide, lit and quiet at dawn, and everything starts and finishes in the same place.
Students and neighbours
You do not need a DU ID to ride with us. Half the group has never sat in a campus classroom — that is rather the point.
Mornings on film
We film the rides, the events and the people who keep showing up. Watch a morning before you commit to one.

Inter-Hall football tournament
Last year, Morning Riders brought the campus alive with an exciting inter-hall footbal tournament at the university of Dhaka. The grand final was graced by our honorable VC, Prof. Niaz Ahmed Khan, making the event truly memorable.

The questions everyone asks at the gate
Still unsure? Message us on Facebook or call 01860-402241 — a rider will answer before tomorrow's ride.
I am slow. Will I hold the group back?
No. Every session has a sweeper at the back whose only job is to be behind the last rider. Groups split by pace within the first kilometre and regather at the finish, so nobody is ever left running alone.
Do I need to sign up or pay anything?
Neither. Morning Riders is free and run by volunteers. Turn up at the listed start point five minutes before the meeting time and introduce yourself to the pacer holding the mint flag.
Do I have to be a Dhaka University student?
Not at all. We are based at TSC because it is central, open and easy to find, but the club is open to anyone in the city — students, staff, neighbours, and people who have not run since school.
What if I can only walk right now?
Then you are exactly who First Light exists for. A good share of the club walks on any given morning — after injury, on recovery days, or simply by preference.
Is it safe to be out that early in Dhaka?
We stick to lit, wide roads with regular bail-out points, always move as a group, and never run single file into traffic. Every group carries a first-aid kit and a charged phone, and we hand out free reflective bands to anyone without one.
What about heat, haze and the monsoon?
That is precisely why we go at dawn — it is the coolest, cleanest hour of a Dhaka day. Rides continue through rain; we only call one off for lightning or flooded roads.
What should I bring on my first morning?
Shoes you have already walked in, a layer you can tie around your waist, and water if you are going past 5 km. That is it — no watch, no gear, no fitness prerequisite.
